LC Energy has a history in Wind Engineering dating back to the 1980’s.
The opportunity for utilising Wind Turbines has merit in specific areas of Queensland and must be compared against Solar PV to realize the best investment opportunity.
For Wind Energy to be cost effective over Solar Energy, specific conditions need to be met; the main criteria being:
- Consistent winds at a level which represent a better energy return on investment than Solar
Production of Energy from the Wind is not limited to daylight hours as with Solar and this is taken into account.
LC Energy can advise on the cost benefits of Wind, where this technology is an appropriate investment over Solar, and the potential for long-term investment. Wind surveys are recommended to identify the potential energy delivery of a particular location.
Whilst wind turbines are not suitable for typical suburban situations in Queensland, there are particular situations where wind energy applications provide better gains than solar:
- Semi-rural and rural properties with consistent wind figures (minimum 4 m/s typical average)
- Farms with consistent wind figures
- Hilltop sites
Commercial, high quality turbines are offered from SONKYO who produce a superior 3-bladed product that is being utilised in many parts of Europe and North America.
LC Energy also has an interest in emerging technology coming out of New Zealand through Powerhouse Wind. They are currently prototype testing a single-bladed downwind turbine.
